With sadness we announce the deaths of Mrs Valerie Weir and Mrs Lavinia (Vi) Ferguson. Valerie’s funeral will take place on Monday 3rd February at 12 noon at Daldowie Crematorium. Vi’s funeral will take place on Wednesday 5th February at 11 am at South Lanarkshire Crematorium. Please remember their family and friends at this time.

Dementia Awareness Sessions
These sessions will run on Wednesday 19th February 3.30-4.30 p.m. and Thursday 20th February 7. 00 – 8.00 p.m.

A new sheet has been placed in the forum café for people to pick a date and time best suited to them. The dementia advisor who will be leading the sessions has asked if we can have at least 6 people in each of the sessions to allow the sessions to run properly.

Crossreach Calendars 2020

Harvest Appeal 2019
We are once again being given the opportunity to contribute to the work of ‘Place of Restoration’ and ‘Turn on the Tap’. Our Harvest Appeal was launched on Sunday 1st September and envelopes were distributed with the September magazine and are available at the church doors and in the Forum Café.  These can be placed in the offering plate on a Sunday or in the treasurer’s box outside the office at other times.

7.00 p.m. Drama Kirk ‘The Word in Action’ Hamilton Old Parish Church Sanctuary: 

Drama Kirk’s new series uses drama techniques to unlock scripture. The first event, focused on the book of Ruth, was a great success, with feedback including, “It was really good fun! Haven’t experienced anything like it. It definitely brought the story alive”.

Our second event is focused on Moses. You can expect to participate in several activities based on the time in the wilderness, deepening our understanding of that part of scripture and the characters involved. The evening will be relaxed and informal. All are welcome – you don’t need any experience or ability to take part. Why not experience it for yourself?

Centre Magazine – available for distribution

‘Food for Thought 2019’  This year a lent discussion group ‘Food for Thought’ will meet for five Sundays beginning on Sunday 10th March at 5.15 p.m. in the Youth Room.  We will be using material called Eat, Pray, Share that allows us to reflect on the way we share round the Lord’s table under the five themes of:

Community
Commemoration
Covenant
Celebration
Commitmentlent-symbols

This is particularly helpful for us in Lent as we begin and end the season by celebrating the Lord’s Supper, first of all on the first Sunday in Lent and then again on Easter Sunday at both our 9.30 a.m. and 10.45 a.m. services.

Food for Thought will last for an hour and people can choose whether they want to stay on for the evening service on those Sunday which will further explore the theme of that week.

St John’s Mini Cubs
Mini cubs runs in St John’s on a Friday night from 6.00 p.m. -7.00 pm and has a very healthy attendance.  Unfortunately, our leader, Tony Carter, is retiring at Easter after 13 years of service and our thanks go to him for carrying out this role well for so many years. The remainder of our leadership team is continuing to the summer where after they too will be retiring. The leadership team is keen to get a new leader and support team in place before then to allow them to assist the new leadership team. We are looking for some volunteers to take on these roles and allow the mini cubs to continue. If you know of anyone would might be interested in getting involved with this active group, please encourage them to contact Lianne McInally, Julie Lamont or Colin MacLeod.

Sing with the Swing Band
11.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m. The Heart and Soul Swing Band will be hosting their second ‘Sing with the Swing Band’ day after the successful launch of their Go For it Fund supported Community Gospel Choir Project in November last year.  More information can be found at the Eventbrite link above.  The event is for people of all ages and any amount of (or no) musical experience.  Come along with a packed lunch, by yourself or with friends or family, for a day of singing and swinging as we celebrate the joy of music!

St Andrew’s Hospice – Make a Will Month – March 2019
